I just woke from a dream in which I toured Rome on a segway with

ironychan.

Only Rome was all clean and new like Rodea Drive. All shiny marble. Not Disney or like it was Rome in the old days - but like Rome was inhabited strictly by the Lexus set.

Attention travellers and Bostonians:

Is there any hotel near Boston Commons that isn't LOUD LOUD LOUD? According to all the travel review sites, every hotel in Boston is frequented by loud, boorish, drunk guests, and they are all located on really really noisy streets.

I can take a lot, but not this.

Any advice, anyone?

HI all! I've been making an 1878-1881 dress. It's been a lot of fun. This is the first of four we are making for Dragon Con (this is the prototype).

This is the short period where the bustle had gone out of fashion, but hadn't yet returned. It's got the bonus of being both easier to make AND easier to sit in. LOL.

I'm on steroids for poison ivy. They tend to make me irrationally angry at lots of things.

Ibou's been out of contact for a week or so on a cruise with his godmother.

I couldn't go to my cousin's wedding, because Saltare was scheduled on campus BEFORE the wedding date was set. This kind of sucks. I also have to teach tomorrow and had to teach on Friday, so there's really no way around not going even if Saltare hadn't been happeneing.

Anyway, the Barony of the South Downs, which actually did all the work for Salare even though I got the site, were awesome, low-key, non-drama campus guests, and they would be welcome back any time.

It's father's day, and I miss my Daddy worse than usual. It's been 20 years, but the hurt feels as fresh now as it did then.

I've been teaching three classes this summer. It really kind of sucks.

Most of you will not know what this means. But I was made a Baroness of the SCA today!

Some SCA folks lost their house in the flooding in Memphis, TN (it's not just Nashville!). They had almost 5' of water and the house will have to be gutted. The house is cleaned out and they are already starting to put new insulation and drywall in (or will be by the weekend).

He will wear anything dignified, including hosen or pumkin pants. He has requested venetians, actually. What do you reckon, tailors? I'm thinking a late period Spanish and something comfy for the day.

Hey, SCA tailors, I need some help.

I've got a friend who I am trying to make a cotehardie pattern for. I've fit a couple of these and they've turned out ok. She's a challenging shape, however - must more generously busted than I, and I can't make the armscye not pucker. It's also pulling weirdly. What do you recommend?

So, if you want, I'll do drunk drabbles like Margot!
